Historical and documentary exhibition «Together they call us – Leningrad!»

september 8, 2026 marks the 85th anniversary of the beginning of World War II and the Siege of Leningrad.

The capture of the city on the Neva was one of the main goals of Nazi Germany as part of the plan to attack the USSR «Barbarossa». With the fall of Leningrad, the Soviet Union would lose the main base of the Baltic Fleet and one of the leading centers of the military industry. This would also allow the Wehrmacht to unite with Finnish troops, freely enter the northern expanses of the USSR and go on the offensive against Moscow, blocking the Soviet capital from the north.

On January 27, 1944, during the Leningrad-Novgorod operation, Soviet troops completely liberated Leningrad from the Nazi blockade. The feat of the city's inhabitants, who endured 872 of the most brutal days of siege, became an eternal example of courage and perseverance

Everyone knows the words of Ilya Ehrenburg: «There is no city in the world that gave so many lives for victory. Its history –the history of the entire Patriotic War: if we entered Berlin, it was also because the Germans did not enter Leningrad». In those harsh, heroic days, the entire Soviet people were with Leningrad. Kyrgyzstanis were in the forefront of those who extended a helping hand to the city on the Neva.
