Candidate exams

Candidate exams are a form of assessing the degree of preparedness of an applicant for the academic degree of Candidate of Sciences to conduct scientific research in a specific scientific specialty and branch of science in which a dissertation is being prepared or prepared.

The list of candidate examinations includes:

  • history and philosophy of science;
  • foreign language;

Attachment of persons to take candidate exams to the organization is carried out in a scientific specialty and branch of science provided for by the nomenclature of scientific specialties approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (hereinafter referred to as scientific specialty, nomenclature, respectively), for the defense of dissertations for the academic degree of candidate of sciences, in which a dissertation is being prepared.

The attached person submits an application for attachment to the rector to take candidate exams (application form – Appendix № 1), indicating in it the name of the scientific specialty and branch of science for which the dissertation is being prepared.

The application for attachment for the candidate examinations shall be accompanied by the following documents

  • a copy of the identification document of the person to be attached;
  • a copy of the higher education document held by the person being attached and its annex;

These facts are certified by the personal signature of the person attached. In case of personal application, the attached person has the right to submit the originals of the above documents, in which case their copies are made by KRSU independently. When submitting the documents necessary to consider the issue of attachment for passing candidate exams, payment is made in accordance with Appendix № 4 to the Order of the Rector of the KRSU dated 08/06/2025. № 349-P. Acceptance of documents for attachment is carried out in session 2 times a year. If the attached person does not submit the documents necessary to consider the issue of attachment for passing candidate exams in full, the KRSU returns the documents.

Rules for passing candidate exams

For the admission of candidate examinations, commissions for the admission of candidate examinations (hereinafter – examination commissions) are created, the composition of which is approved by order of the KRSU.

The assessment of the level of knowledge of an applicant for the academic degree of Candidate of Sciences is determined by examination commissions on a five-point scale.

The decision of the examination commissions is documented in a protocol. The passing of candidate exams is confirmed by a certificate issued on the basis of the decision of the examination commissions.

Postgraduate studies

Full-time – three (four) years,
Part-time – four years (five years).

  1. Postgraduate students enjoy benefits provided for by the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic/Russian Federation on labor.
  2. Postgraduate students in full-time postgraduate studies, subject to the individual plan, are entitled to perform paid scientific and teaching work.
  3. The scholarship for full-time postgraduate students enrolled against the benchmark figures is paid from the date of enrollment. A postgraduate student during his postgraduate studies is required to
    • fully implement the individual plan according to the curriculum;
    • pass candidate exams in history and philosophy of science, foreign language;
    • complete the work on the dissertation and submit it to the department to obtain an appropriate conclusion.
  4. Training is carried out in accordance with training programs for scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel in graduate school and provides for certification twice a year in accordance with the curriculum and schedule of the educational process. For graduate school graduates, the time spent in full-time graduate school is counted towards the length of scientific, pedagogical and scientific work. Scientific supervisors of graduate students (from among doctors of science or professors) and dissertation topics are approved by the academic council of the university on the proposal of departments within the time frame determined by the university. The completion of the approved individual plan by the graduate student is supervised by the scientific supervisor and the head of the specialized department.
  5. In some cases, candidates of science of the relevant specialty, as a rule, who have the academic title of associate professor or senior researcher, and have permission from the Higher Attestation Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for scientific guidance, may be involved in the scientific supervision of the training of graduate students.
  6. Postgraduate students performing scientific research at the intersection of related specialties are allowed to have two scientific supervisors or a supervisor and a consultant, one of whom may be a candidate of science.
  7. The postgraduate student is certified annually by the department. A graduate student who does not fulfill the individual plan within the established time frame is expelled from graduate school.
  8. The period of full-time postgraduate study at the expense of the budget is extended for the duration of maternity leave, as well as for the period of illness lasting more than a month, subject to the appropriate medical report within the limits of the scholarship fund. The procedure for extending the period of postgraduate study by correspondence, and students studying on a paid basis, is the responsibility of the university.
  9. Graduate students use free equipment, laboratories, classrooms, and libraries.
  10. The transfer of graduate students from one higher educational institution or scientific institution, organization to another, as well as from full-time to part-time training and vice versa, is carried out at the request of the graduate student.
  11. The scientific and technical council of the university periodically hears reports from graduate students and their scientific supervisors.
  12. Remuneration for scientific supervisors of graduate students is made at the rate of 50 hours per graduate student per year, including when the graduate student is approved by two supervisors or a supervisor and a consultant.
  13. Postgraduate students are given holidays in the academic year with a total duration of at least 6 and no more than 8 weeks.
