September 3, 1945: end of World War II and the role of the USSR in the surrender of Japan

September 3 is the Day of the End of World War II. This memorable day was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR immediately after the signing of the act of unconditional surrender of Japan, which marked the end of the most destructive war of the 20th century.

The Second World War lasted six years and covered almost the entire world —61 countries out of 72 that existed at that time took part in the conflict. Victory was achieved at the cost of enormous sacrifices, and today we remember the feat of everyone who brought this day closer.

🎙 On the radio Sputnik Kyrgyzstan director of the Center for Historical and Cultural Heritage KRSU Leonid Sumarokov emphasized that the Soviet Union played a decisive role in the surrender of Japan. According to him, despite the US atomic strikes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it was the rapid offensive of Soviet troops in the Far East that became the factor that forced Tokyo to sign the surrender.
