On February 4, an official visit to KRSU by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov took place
On February 4, in the large assembly hall of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, as part of the official visit, a meeting was held between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the university staff.
Rector of KRSU, academician V.I. Nifadiev reminded those present that S.V. Lavrov is an Honorary Doctor of KRSU and gave him the floor.
In his speech, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about the results of the meeting with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov, who stated that the Russian language is the country’s heritage and its position will be strengthened, and its official status will remain.
Sergey Lavrov noted the high level of alliance and strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Kyrgyz Republic, based on strong traditions of historical friendship and mutual respect.
The well-known diplomat noted that the demand for Russian-language education in Kyrgyzstan remains high, and about 16 thousand Kyrgyzstanis are studying at Russian universities today (360 budget places have been allocated for citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic this year).
The distinguished guest especially emphasized that with the accession of Kyrgyzstan to the Eurasian Economic Union, relations between the countries moved to a new, higher quality level of cooperation. The Russian Foreign Minister also noted that his visit to Bishkek is dedicated to preparations for Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Kyrgyzstan and the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, which will take place on March 1, 2019.
Then Sergey Lavrov answered questions from teachers and students of KRSU, related mainly to the preservation of the Russian language in Kyrgyzstan, the positive growth of trade turnover, academic exchange and the state of affairs in the field of bilateral cooperation, including the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO and the Collective Security Council CSTO within the framework of the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic.
