Immortal Regiment KRSU. Soldier's Glory (Akhat Akhmetshin)

I want to talk about my grandfather, who took part in the Great Patriotic War and contributed to the Victory. I am writing with great pride now that my grandfather, Akhat Akhmetovich Akhmetshin, was one of those who were not afraid of death and were ready to give their lives for the world in which we live now.

Grandfather was born on February 7, 1925 in the city of Kazan. He graduated from eight-year school, helped his parents – did housework, worked in the fields. He was distinguished by a high sense of responsibility for the assigned work.

When the Great Patriotic War began, my grandfather was only 16 years old. A year later, in 1942, he was called to the front. As a child, I listened to my grandfather’s stories about that terrible war, about the horrors and difficulties that the people experienced, about my grandfather’s participation in battles, about the death of his comrades. Grandfather said that all the soldiers thought only about victory. They did not spare themselves, they committed heroic deeds, which they would later call feats. The consciousness of my duty to the Motherland drowned out the feeling of fear, pain, and thoughts of death. They didn't think about fame, she found them herself. Some during their lifetime, and some after.

Grandfather was an ordinary soldier of the 56th Guards Regiment. He was wounded in the arm and received a concussion. He took part in the battles on the Kursk Bulge, liberated Mogilev, Minsk, and stormed Koenigsberg. Grandfather did not look for easy ways, did not hide behind other people’s backs. He even had to participate in hand-to-hand combat. He was demobilized in 1945. Amid troubles, hardships and deaths, grandfather survived, did not lose human dignity, did not break, retained a sensitive heart and faith in the future.

After the end of the war, my grandfather continued to work, restored the national economy destroyed after the war, worked at a mine in the Kemerovo region, then, after moving to Kyrgyzstan in 1980, he worked at the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Balneology and Rehabilitation Treatment.

His military work was awarded the main soldier's award – Order of Glory, III degree. I'm proud of my grandfather! I love him and will always remember him!
