Book Day

Today is Book Day in Kyrgyzstan!

This holiday was established by Decree of the Government of the Republic №189 of April 1, 2002, to celebrate the importance of the book in the development of culture and education.

The development of book publishing in the country began back in the 1920s, thanks to the first printed organs in the Kyrgyz language. Ishenaly Arabayev played a significant role in this process, contributing to the publication of books and literature in his native language. In 1926, the publishing house "Kyrgyzmambas" ("Kirgosizdat") was founded, and in 1966 the Kyrgyz Printing Plant began operating, opening a new stage in the development of book publishing in the Republic.
