Day of Remembrance and Sorrow
85 years ago the Great Patriotic War began — one of the most tragic pages in the history of our peoples. This day reminds us of the price of peace, the courage of millions of people who stood up to defend the Motherland, the feat of front-line soldiers, home front workers, women and children of the military generation.On the eve of the memorable date, an international event «Candle of Memory» took place on Victory Square in Bishkek. Participants lit fiery pictures of the war, paid tribute to the memory of the dead and took part in the action «Return of the Name» dedicated to restoring the fate of soldiers who were considered missing.Rector of KRSU Sergei Volkov addressed the event participants with a welcoming speech. He noted the importance of preserving historical memory and emphasized that history remains alive as long as new generations remember it. The rector paid special attention to the role of youth in preserving the truth about the Great Patriotic War, and also spoke about KRSU projects for the preservation of historical heritage.«A story lives on when it is remembered.
