Philosophy in an era of change: KRSU celebrated UNESCO World Philosophy Day
Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies named after Academician A.Ch. Kakeeva of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University held a round table «Challenges of our time and philosophy» dedicated to UNESCO World Philosophy Day. The event also coincided with Science Day of Kyrgyzstan and the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great thinker Immanuel Kant.
The round table brought together scientists, teachers and students to discuss the challenges facing modern humanity. The focus was on issues of artificial intelligence, machine ethics, environmentalism after capitalism, philosophy of technology and religion as a unique phenomenon. Through the prism of Kantian philosophy, participants sought answers to the most pressing questions related to the transformation of human essence into the digital era.
Particular attention was paid to the moral and anthropological aspects of Kant's philosophy. Both in the 18th century and today, his ideas help to comprehend the rapid development of technology and its impact on man, his choices and values.
However, philosophy – is not only serious issues, but also a living, inspiring tradition. The round table ended with a solemn ceremony of initiating freshmen into philosophers and religious scholars. This moment turned into a vibrant show, full of humor and student creativity. Freshmen showed their talents in competitions «Four Images and One Idea», «Keys to Wisdom» and «Neither “Yes” nor “No”», and senior students shared philosophical jokes and behind-the-scenes stories from student life.
«Meetings of this format remind us that philosophy – is not only science, but also the art of asking important questions. It is philosophy that helps us understand who we are, where we are going and how to cope with the challenges of the time», – noted one of the organizers of the event.
