A master class «Anatomy of an unsuccessful project» was held at FADIS for teachers, students and partners of KRSU
«A professional – is someone who knows the standard errors in their field and knows how to avoid them».
These words of Enrico Fermi became the leitmotif of the master class that took place yesterday at FADIS.
President of the Engineering Corporation «IRBIS» and Chairman of the Expert Council of the National Association of Technical Customers «NOTECH» Gennady Kirkin shared with the participants many years of experience in managing construction projects and an in-depth analysis of the reasons for their failure.
During the workshop, the audience learned:
• What mistakes are most often used to cause projects to fail;
• How to identify cause-and-effect relationships between factors «failure»;
• Why project management systems sometimes fail;
• How to recognize indicators of a problematic project in time.
Kirkin presented statistics supported by data from the world's leading analysts:
• 65% of megaprojects fail (Independent Project Analysis);
• 64% of oil and gas projects overspend their budget, and 73% do not meet deadlines (Ernst & Young);
• Only a third of projects achieve their stated goals, 17% fail completely (PMI).
According to the expert, the corporation «IRBIS», having more than 30 years of experience and having implemented over 100 projects, often gets involved in tasks at late stages, when projects are already facing a crisis. However, this is what allowed the company to systematize the most common mistakes and determine the patterns that lead projects to failure.
Listeners got acquainted with real cases of failed projects, analyzed key mistakes and received practical recommendations to prevent them.
