Faculty of Medicine KRSU: problems of the past and strategy for the future
At the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, a meeting was held between Rector Sergei Volkov and the teaching staff of the Faculty of Medicine. At the beginning of the meeting, current issues of the faculty were discussed, after which the rector presented the university development strategy and outlined the key areas that will determine the future of KRSU.
Sergei Volkov focused on the problems that the Faculty of Medicine faces today. «For 32 years, what have we done to you? That our medical faculties are in this state. No objects, no technical parts. The only thing that was most unique was how you, the people at the faculty, were saved. And now everything rests on you», — the rector emphasized.
He recalled that in the republic today there are only two universities that train the medical elite — KSMA and KRSU. «If you and I do not change our attitude towards our work, there will be only one university left», — Volkov said. At the same time, the rector noted that the upcoming presidential decree will assign the right to train medical personnel only to state universities: «Of course, you have not yet seen this decree, but it will say: except for KRSU. And we managed to do it».
The rector emphasized that the Faculty of Medicine has no other way but to move forward: «There are two ways: leave it as it is and develop it. Unfortunately, there is no third option». At the same time, he spoke out sharply against corruption.
He drew attention to the importance of personnel renewal and a mentoring system in which experienced teachers will pass on knowledge to young colleagues. The average age of employees today is 65 years, and the university sets the task of rejuvenating the team. At the same time, the rector noted the need «to review educational content» and make it more practice-oriented.
Particular attention was paid to international accreditation and scientific projects.
Next, Sergei Volkov presented strategic plans: on the new campus, the Faculty of Medicine will receive 25 thousand square meters, including 5 thousand for the university clinic.
KRSU plans to develop the areas of nuclear medicine, digital modeling of medical devices, biomechanics and radiopharmacy. Negotiations are underway with «Rosatom» about the possibility of installing a cyclotron accelerator on campus.
The rector spoke about the creation of an endowment fund, the funds of which will be used to develop infrastructure and support students and teachers. By 2030, the fund should reach 1 billion soms. «Such funds — normal practice of the world's leading universities. This is a tool that will allow us to depend less on the budget and invest in the future ourselves», — Volkov noted.
Concluding the meeting, the rector again addressed the teachers: «The most important person at the university — is a student. If there is no student, there is no university. It needs to be given knowledge and real opportunities for growth».
According to Sergei Volkov, the development strategy of KRSU until 2030 provides for the university to enter the top 5 universities in Central Asia, and this result is possible only with the active participation of the entire team.
