Russian Foreign Ministry: Negotiations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan strengthen the strategic partnership
On January 22, 2025, negotiations took place in Moscow between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev. The parties discussed a wide range of issues, confirming the strategic nature of bilateral relations.
During the meeting, the Ministers stressed the importance of regular political dialogue at summit level and reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached at previous summits. Particular attention was paid to the development of economic cooperation, the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission and large-scale educational projects, including the construction of nine Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan. The work of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University and the activities of the International Organization for the Russian Language were also discussed.
Issues of interaction within international organizations such as the EAEU, CSTO, CIS and SCO were considered. Russia confirmed its support for the priorities of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship in the CSTO, emphasizing the need to jointly fight terrorism and extremism.
An important point of the negotiations was preparations for the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, which will be celebrated in 2025. Sergei Lavrov conveyed the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov to take part in the festive events in Moscow on May 9.
As a result of the meeting, the parties signed the Inter-Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cooperation Program for 2025-2027, which will be a new stage in strengthening foreign policy coordination between the two states.
Sergei Lavrov expressed gratitude to Jeenbek Kulubaev for his fruitful work and accepted the invitation to visit Kyrgyzstan in the near future.
