The Russian Ministry of Education and Science warned universities about cases of fraud on social networks

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has recorded an increasing number of cases of fraudulent appeals to university leaders through social networks. The attackers pose as ministry representatives and request contact information for employees, supposedly «to update databases».

According to the Department of Information Policy and Integrated Security of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the department does not collect contact information for employees of subordinate organizations through such channels.

In this regard, universities are advised to be vigilant and immediately inform management when receiving such requests.

Experts emphasize: transfer of personal data to third parties without confirming the authenticity of the request — potential threat to information security.

The Ministry calls on educational organizations to strengthen internal protection measures and monitor the reliability of all incoming requests.
