The common history of Kyrgyzstan and Russia in the modern context
The International Scientific and Practical Conference «General History of Kyrgyzstan and Russia in the Modern Context» was held at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.
The event was organized jointly with the Institute of International Studies of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The round table discussed key issues of the common history of Kyrgyzstan and Russia, including approaches and assessments of historical events, the co-development of the peoples of Central Asia in the 19th-20th centuries, and the importance of discourse «decolonization». Participants also examined the political motivation of this discourse, the role of third forces, NGOs and the media, as well as the positions of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation.
The opening ceremony began with welcoming words from the rector of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University Denis Fomin-Nilov, the education and science attaché of the Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan Robert Fedorov, and the project manager, Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher at the Center for Euro-Asian Studies at MGIMO University of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, professor St. Petersburg State University Alexander Knyazev.
During the event, presentations were made by leading scientists and experts:
- Shayirkul Batyrbaeva, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, spoke about key issues in the general history of Kyrgyzstan in the context of intensifying the discourse on decolonization.
- Tatyana Viktorovna Kotyukova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, discussed the possibilities of finding mutually acceptable historical assessments and their implementation in education and public opinion.
Speeches were also presented by
- Alexander Kolesnikov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor at St. Petersburg State University.
- Zainidin Kurmanov, Vice-Rector for Research of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Honored Worker of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic
- Salamat Malabaev, Candidate of Historical Sciences, senior lecturer at the Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakova.
- Pavel Dyatlenko, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.
- Kanybek Kudayarov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The event ended with recommendations for further work of Kyrgyz and Russian scientists and experts, aimed at creating a positive attitude towards the common historical past and Russian politics in the countries of Central Asia.
