Representatives of KRSU took part in a round table on protecting the rights of foreign students

Employees of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University took part in the round table «Results of monitoring to ensure respect for the rights of foreign students in the Kyrgyz Republic».

The main goal of the event is to discuss the state of security of foreign students studying in Kyrgyzstan and develop recommendations for improving the system for protecting their rights and freedoms.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, in 2023 there were 25,774 foreign students studying in Kyrgyzstan, of which 77% were studying in medical faculties. Most students came from South Asian countries — India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Participants noted that despite the growing interest in Kyrgyz education, it is necessary to strengthen measures to prevent crime against foreign students and develop a culture of tolerance.

«The issue of security and respect for foreign students —this is not only the protection of their rights, but also the image of Kyrgyzstan as an open and hospitable country», — emphasized the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva.

Experts from the Ombudsman Institute presented recommendations on ensuring the safety and support of foreign students. Among the proposals are — development of campus infrastructure, creation of support services, advanced training of university employees and coordination of actions with law enforcement agencies.
