Sergey Vakunov: Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University — flagship of education and symbol of cooperation between the two countries
In an interview «with Rossiyskaya Gazeta», Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kyrgyz Republic Sergei Vakunov emphasized the strategic nature of relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, noting the special role of education and cultural exchange in strengthening partnership.
The Ambassador recalled that 2025 marked the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Eternal Friendship, Alliance and Partnership between Russia and Kyrgyzstan — a document that became the basis of the modern legal framework for bilateral interaction.
In an interview, Sergei Vakunov paid special attention to the educational sphere, calling the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University a flagship project of cooperation between the two states:
«Flagship project — of course, the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, which today has about 7.5 thousand students. The leadership of the two states pays unprecedented attention to the development and modernization of the university. In June 2025, Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin decided to allocate funds for the creation of a modern campus of KRSU. The parties are currently completing joint work on a draft intergovernmental agreement on the conditions for its construction».
The Ambassador noted that Russia attaches great importance to the development of KRSU as the most important humanitarian center and educational bridge between countries.
«The destinies of the peoples of Russia and Kyrgyzstan are closely intertwined. We are united by centuries of history, friendship and mutual trust. Kyrgyz partners know: Russia is always ready to lend a shoulder and provide the necessary assistance», — emphasized Sergei Vakunov.
The development of KRSU, according to the diplomat, is part of a broad program to support education, science and innovation in Kyrgyzstan, which contributes to the training of qualified personnel, strengthening intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding between peoples.
