On the sidelines of SPIEF 2026, the rector of KRSU Sergei Volkov took part in a panel discussion of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science «Student Design Bureaus (SKB): from ideas to industrial implementation».The discussion was moderated by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Dmitry Afanasyev. Participants discussed the role of student design bureaus in the training of engineering personnel, the development of applied projects and the introduction of university developments in the real sector of the economy. Particular attention was paid to the interaction of universities and industrial partners, as well as the involvement of students in solving real production problems.Representatives of the country's leading universities shared their experience, including Vice-Rector for Research of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Yuri Fomin, who presented a model for training engineering personnel — from school engineering classes to student participation in fulfilling real orders from industrial enterprises.For KRSU, the topic of development of project activities is especially relevant. This year, the University, with the support of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the construction company «Irbis-Kurulush» start, has a Student Design Bureau. The new site allows students of engineering, architectural and construction study programs to participate in the implementation of real projects, develop technical solutions and gain practical experience working with industry cases.Cooperation between KRSU and St. Petersburg Polytechnic University provides methodological and expert support for the work of the bureau, the introduction of modern educational approaches and the exchange of best practices in training engineering personnel.
