Staff of the KRSU Faculty of Medicine were trained in biobanking, genetic research and cellular technologies

Employees of the Faculty of Medicine of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University — Deputy Dean for Scientific and Clinical Work Aidana Arykova and Head of the Educational and Scientific Laboratory of Biomedical Data, Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence Samat Abdrakhmanov — took part in the scientific and educational program of the National Association of Biobanking Specialists (NASBIO) «Biobanking for genetic research and cellular technologies», which took place in Moscow from June 2 to 4.The training took place on the basis of leading scientific and medical centers in Russia: the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health, which has one of the largest biobanks in the country, the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov and the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleya, where a modern automated biobank operates.As part of the program, participants studied international approaches to the organization and management of biobanks, issues of standardization and quality control of biological samples, features of storing materials for genetic research, modern digital solutions for accounting and management of biological collections, as well as legal aspects of the work of biobanks.Particular attention was paid to practical training. KRSU employees mastered methods for isolating DNA from blood, became acquainted with technologies for preparing biomaterial for genetic research, gained skills in working with biological fluids and histological samples, and also studied modern approaches to cryopreservation and storage of biological materials.At Sechenov University, participants learned about best practices in the field of cell technologies and regenerative medicine. In addition, the principles of designing laboratory premises were studied, dividing into «clean» and «dirty» zones, which is of particular practical value in the context of developing the infrastructure of the future KRSU campus and creating modern research laboratories.The acquired knowledge and competencies will be used in the launch and development of the recently created Educational and Scientific Laboratory of Biomedical Data, Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence at KRSU. Training of specialists in the field of biobanking is an important stage in the formation of the laboratory’s research base and the introduction of international quality standards into the scientific activities of the university.Already in the fall of 2026, on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine KRSU, together with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, it is planned to conduct a large-scale epidemiological study to study the prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases, as well as the impact of environmental factors, urban infrastructure and air pollution on public health.During the trip, KRSU employees also visited a number of scientific organizations in Moscow, where they discussed the prospects for scientific cooperation, the development of the KRSU biobank and received recommendations on its further equipment and organization of work.
