KRSU students choose science: results of a sociological survey
The Center for Sociological Research of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University has completed a large-scale study on the attitude of students to scientific activities. 742 people took part in the survey — undergraduates, undergraduates and graduate students of KRSU.
The results showed: the vast majority of participants are satisfied with the conditions created at the university for the development of science and research initiatives. For many, scientific work — is not just part of the educational process, but an important stage of personal and professional development. Thus, 43.47% of respondents called it an interesting activity, 41.47% — a way of self-realization, 34.8% — creative activity, and 33.87% noted its prestige.
Interest in scientific research grows as one progresses in one's academic career: 57.25% of students, 63.41% of master's students and 71.79% of graduate students are actively involved or would like to be involved in research work.
Among the main motives for participating in scientific activities, students note the desire to gain new knowledge and experience (38.67%), as well as the desire to lay the foundation for future professional and academic growth (27.47%).
The potential for involvement is no less important: 43.81% of students expressed their readiness to join the student scientific society, and 56.41% of graduate students — to take part in the work of the Council of Young Scientists KRSU.
The findings indicate that KRSU maintains and strengthens its status as one of the leading universities in the region, where a generation of young researchers is being formed, focused on the development of science, innovation and intercultural academic cooperation.
