Thematic meeting at KRSU: «CSTO Parliamentary Assembly: legal response to challenges and threats to collective security»
An important thematic meeting was held at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU) on the legal response to challenges and threats to collective security within the framework of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. The event brought together teachers and students of KRSU.
The main topic of the meeting was devoted to security issues, development and strengthening of sovereignty within the framework of the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic in the CSTO. The most important part of the event was the discussion of the contribution of the scientific community to solving pressing problems of regional and international security.
The acting rector of KRSU, Sergei Volkov, delivered a welcoming speech at the open lecture, who noted the importance of informing students and teachers about issues of collective security:
"The purpose of today’s event is to inform about key issues of ensuring collective security within the framework of the CSTO treaty. Discussion of current issues will increase the effectiveness of coordination of state efforts, expand knowledge about modern threats and strengthen both national and regional Eurasian security. It is especially important that this meeting takes place in the anniversary year, the 80th anniversary of the Victory, emphasizing the importance of security in the context of historical memory", - noted acting by Rector Sergei Volkov.
Plenipotentiary Representative in the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the CSTO PA Shabdanbek Alishev emphasized the importance of consolidating efforts in the field of science and law to counter global threats. In his speech, he noted:
«We see tension on the external borders of collective security regions, attempts to destabilize the political situation and interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states. In these conditions, it is important to consolidate efforts in the field of scientific analysis, strengthening legal response and countering modern threats, including terrorism, extremism, cyber threats and destructive influence on youth. Working together with higher education institutions and international organizations is key to achieving stability and security».
Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the informative lecture of Vyacheslav Karlenovich Kocharyan, Advisor to the Expert Analytical Department of the CSTO PA Secretariat. In his speech, he spoke about the key areas of foreign policy interaction between Kyrgyzstan and emphasized the role of the CSTO in resolving security issues through active cooperation with educational and international structures:
«Important areas of Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy interaction are the development of political documents, strengthening foreign policy coordination and strengthening the role of the CSTO in resolving security issues».
One of the most notable moments of the event was the open dialogue with students. Young people were actively interested in the challenges in the region, the role of the CSTO and the future of the collective security system. The panellists emphasized that such formats allow students to feel involved in key international political and security issues.
As part of the event, a meeting was also held between the acting rector of KRSU Sergei Volkov and the Advisor to the Expert Analytical Department of the CSTO PA Secretariat Vyacheslav Kacheryan and the Plenipotentiary Representative in the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the CSTO PA Shabdanbek Alishev. During the discussion, issues of expanding the partnership of KRSU with international structures and the university’s participation in specialized initiatives were raised.
Similar lectures and dialogue platforms, as in KRSU, will be held in other universities in the country, which is an important step towards the formation of civic and professional responsibility of future specialists. These activities promote an in-depth understanding of security issues and provide students and teachers with the necessary knowledge to actively participate in solving problems facing society and the state.
