The future of security in Central Asia was discussed in Bishkek: results of the first day of the international conference
The Joint International Interuniversity Scientific and Practical Conference of Young Scientists and Students «From National to Global Security: Multifactorial Analysis of Challenges and Threats to the Stable Development of Central Asia» started in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The first day of the event was held in the format of rich panel discussions, exchange of views and search for solutions on key security issues in the region.
Modern security challenges
Discussions began with a discussion of global issues — from the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals to the crisis of the Eurasian security architecture. Participants said that Central Asia is becoming a new point of attraction in the geopolitical space. Professor of the Department of International and Constitutional Law KRSU Aidar Dzhumagulov noted that the key to the stability of the region — is the integration of cultural and historical heritage into modern security strategies.
Cultural heritage as the foundation of sustainable development
One of the sections was devoted to the role of cultural heritage in building long-term sustainable development strategies. Experts discussed how national strategies can work in conjunction with integration processes to counter extremism. Examples were heard from the experience of the CSTO countries, where issues of preserving cultural identity are directly related to the development of economies and strengthening security.
Policies against radicalization and legislative initiatives
Another important topic was the study of collective security mechanisms and legislative initiatives aimed at countering radicalism. Representatives of the expert community emphasized the need to reconsider approaches to regional cooperation.
«We see that old schemes do not work, — said one of the participants. — We need to look for new ways that will take into account both global trends and the specifics of Central Asia».
Statement by Sergei Volkov: youth as a driver of change
Sergey Volkov, acting rector of KRSU, in his speech focused on the role of young researchers in solving modern challenges. According to him, scientific interaction between universities in the region creates the basis for a sustainable future.
«We are pleased to provide a forum for this kind of discussion. Youth — is not just the future, these are those who are already determining the vector of development today. The results of the conference will definitely find their application in real politics», — Volkov emphasized.
Productive start: what's next?
The first day of the conference ended on an optimistic note. Participants noted the high level of organization and the importance of the topics covered. The second day promises to be no less eventful: new discussions and expert round tables are planned.
Security issues in Central Asia remain the focus of attention, and the conference is already demonstrating its significance for both scientists and practitioners.
