KRSU discussed development strategy, partnerships and new academic standards
A meeting of the Academic Council was held at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, chaired by Rector Sergei Volkov. The agenda included key issues in the development of the university — from personnel and organizational decisions to the formation of a new educational ecosystem, international partnerships and scientific standards. The meeting was held in a dynamic format of open dialogue.
The meeting began with a solemn note — teachers who received new academic degrees and titles were congratulated on their well-deserved success. The presentation of certificates was a symbolic beginning of a conversation about the future of the university.
«Today we see that the work of the Academic Council ceases to be a formality. This is no longer just a meeting — this is a platform for exchanging ideas and planning the future of KRSU», — noted Rector Sergei Volkov, opening the meeting.
After applause — to the point. One of the first items on the agenda was the issue of the 2026 admissions campaign. The Academic Council approved a new system: now grant places will be formed only by full groups of 25 people. This model, according to the rector, will make it possible to build the set more systematically and plan the educational process without breaks.
«It is important that we think not a year ahead, but a few steps. We must work for quality, not quantity», — Volkov emphasized.
The cost of training on a contract basis will be adjusted within the limits of standards — without compromising the quality of programs and material resources.
At the meeting, a program of strategic cooperation with business and industry was presented: paid practices, personalized scholarships, research projects and laboratories with the support of companies.
«Partnerships — it's not just logos on the walls. This is an opportunity for students to see how knowledge turns into real action», — added the rector.
Particular attention was paid to the development of two key study programs — engineering, technical and social and humanitarian clusters. The engineering unit will become a center for training specialists in the fields of energy, mining, mechatronics and ecology. Here it is planned to move to a specialty, open new laboratories and flagship programs. The socio-humanitarian cluster, which includes the Faculty of International Relations, is aimed at forming an expert and analytical center with international master's programs and a scientific laboratory for the study of Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
The Academic Council also decided to transform the publication «Bulletin KRSU». The journal will be brought to international academic standards to be included in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. It is planned to update the editorial policy, expand the editorial board and translate materials into English.
In addition, 129 final and interdisciplinary state certification programs (IGA and MIGA) have been approved, covering all levels of education — from bachelor's and master's degrees to specialties and secondary vocational training programs. The exams will be held in December after the liquidation of academic debts is completed. «MIGA — this is not just a formality. This is an indicator of the quality of education, which reflects the level of training of our students», — the rector emphasized.
Summing up the meeting, Sergei Volkov noted that the university is entering a new stage of development:
«We are moving from targeted initiatives to a systemic movement. This is a path where every faculty, every laboratory, every idea must work towards a common goal —a strong, competitive university open to the world».
The Academic Council instructed to develop roadmaps in all areas — from the engineering cluster to the endowment fund and MIGA, — with clear deadlines, responsible executors and transparent implementation mechanisms.
