KRSU paid tribute to the victims of the siege of Leningrad
On September 8, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Siege of Leningrad, a solemn event dedicated to the 84th anniversary of the beginning of the siege of Leningrad was held at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.
The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of the more than a million city residents who died during the siege.
Stanislav Kulikov, Vice-Rector of KRSU, delivered a welcoming speech. He emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory, noting: «We express our gratitude to the veterans, in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, I would like to bend my knees to your feet. We at KRSU store history and want our students to remember and pass it on».
During the most difficult years of the blockade, Kyrgyzstan received 16 thousand evacuated Leningraders. After the Victory, many of them returned to their hometown, retaining in their hearts gratitude to the hospitable mountain republic and its people. But hundreds and thousands remained to live and work on the land of Ala-Too, contributing to the development of the country.
The event was attended by deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, representatives of the Russian Embassy, Rossotrudnichestvo, the city of St. Petersburg, clergy and public organizations. Advisor to the Russian Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic Sergei Khramov in his speech noted the importance of preserving historical memory and presented letters of gratitude on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Consultant of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office Esma Hagba presented veterans, siege survivors, children of besieged Leningrad and concentration camp prisoners with the symbolic Victory Banner.
The key moment of the meeting was the award ceremony: letters of gratitude to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and siege survivors of Leningrad were also handed over on behalf of the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh and the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Words of gratitude were addressed to the veterans and flowers were presented.
The meeting ended with a cultural program: KRSU students performed songs from the war years, read poems by Olga Berggolts, and a video message from experts from Russia was shown.
«Youth, seize the moment, appreciate, touch what is. And I want to remind you of the words of Chingiz Aitmatov in one of his works: you can take away life, you can take away wealth, you can take away land, but no one will take away memory. So remember, we remember everything», — emphasized Gulya Kozhokulova, deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, co-chairman of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The solemn event at KRSU became a reminder of the perseverance of Leningraders and the contribution of the peoples of the Soviet Union to the Victory, as well as a call to the younger generation to preserve the memory of the feat of their ancestors.
