The traditional Olympiad in Philosophy was held at KRSU
14 December 2023 department of Philosophy named after. Academician A. Kakeeva held the annual university student Olympiad in philosophy.
The purpose of the event is – to popularize philosophical knowledge, motivate students to study current philosophical problems, as well as stimulate their creative and scientific potential.
The Olympiad was attended by 12 1st year students from the humanities, economics, architecture, design and construction departments, as well as 2nd year students from the medical department, who passed the qualifying round at their faculties.
Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Amangeldy Bekbalayev delivered a welcoming speech to the finalists. He noted the importance of studying philosophy in modern conditions, when the assimilation of philosophical culture is one of the main criteria for mastering universal education.
The head of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Nurgul Osmonova, also addressed the students.
- The Olympiad in Philosophy occupies a special place among the Olympiads in other disciplines, since the birthplace of both philosophy and the Olympiad is Ancient Greece. And they, having common, ancient roots, have survived to this day and constitute the greatest achievement of all mankind. Moreover, all sciences and disciplines emerged over time from philosophy as the oldest science and the very first form of rational knowledge in the history of mankind. Therefore, it is no coincidence that famous scientists and representatives of specific sciences turn to philosophy in one way or another to substantiate and comprehend the results of their scientific discoveries; moreover, all key disputes and discussions in the history of science arise around philosophical problems rather than specific sciences themselves. In this sense, philosophy has been and remains not only a spiritual form of worldview, but also a universal practice of learning.
The Olympiad participants began guessing philosophical crosswords, after which they chose one of three pre-prepared topics for the speech by drawing lots.
This year the jury identified the following three most relevant topics for the Olympiad:
- The place and role of artificial intelligence in the life of society
- Freedom and responsibility as value concepts of morality
- Philosophy as a way of life and thinking (using the example of the life and work of philosophers)
Each speech by an Olympiad participant was accompanied by a presentation of current problems; speeches related to the opportunities and risks of developing artificial intelligence aroused particular interest and discussion. Questions were also raised about human freedom and responsibility for the future of humanity in an era of global and environmental crisis.
Based on the total number of points scored for guessing the philosophical crossword puzzle and performance, the jury determined the next three winners of the Philosophy Olympiad.
1st place was taken by Abdullaev Iskander, a 1st year student at the Faculty of Economics.
2nd place was taken by Nazira Tursunkulova, a 1st year student at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Construction.
3rd place was taken by Rakhimov Murat, a 2nd year student at the Faculty of Medicine.
All winners who took prizes were awarded diplomas Ⅰ, ⅠⅠ, ⅠⅠⅠ degrees and memorable prizes – 3-volume textbook on synergetics. All other students were awarded certificates of participation in the Philosophy Olympiad.
