The famous oncologist not only in our country, but also at the international level, professor of the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy of KRSU Zakir Kamarli turned 80 years old.
– We will not sum up the results. It's too early for me. I'm not going to retire, – he responded with a laugh to my interview proposal.
I asked for an interview not so much because of the anniversary, but because Professor Camarly did a lot for the formation and development of oncology services, in particular, he, in fact, is the founder of pediatric oncology.
Before this, children were operated on in different clinics by surgeons who were not specialists in the field of oncology. This often led to relapses and progression of the disease.
Apparently, Zakir Pashaevich is destined to be the discoverer and initiator of many endeavors. As director of the Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, he carried out a large-scale reorganization of the service, bringing care as close as possible to patients. Professor – author of the first oncology textbook for students, which to this day remains the only reference book for future oncologists. He was among the first to use drug therapy with targeted and immuno-oncological drugs in the fight against cancer and believes that over time this method will push cancer surgery into the background.
