Climate change challenges affect women and men differently. Nadezhda Prigoda, associate professor of the Department of Civil Law and Process of the KRSU, gender expert, told reporters about this today.

According to her, different groups of people have their own specific needs.

«For example, during drought, flood or mudflows, there is a risk of developing various diseases — cardiovascular diseases, allergies, acute intestinal infections (ACI). It has been proven that temperature peaks, especially in summer, if they occur during some critical periods of pregnancy, can negatively affect the health of both women and children.

In the context of developing drinking water shortages, women are forced to prioritize needs, that is, first spend existing supplies on cooking and only then on hygienic needs. In this regard, there is a risk of ACI in children. It is impossible to instill in them stable hygiene skills, since there is not enough water. If a child gets OKI, then additional care for him also falls on the woman», — said Nadezhda Prigoda.
