Two KRSU teams will represent the university in the quarterfinals of the ICPC regional tournament
The final took place in Moscow from October 1 to 6 ICPC – international championship in algorithmic programming, where the best minds on the planet compete annually. These are real Olympic Games for undergraduate and graduate students, whose teams compete in speed, creativity and innovation in solving problems.
The mission of the championship – to create opportunities for communication between students of various universities and attract the attention of scientific circles and IT-industry to a new generation of programming professionals.
The championship grew out of a local collegiate programming competition that took place at the University of Texas in 1970. The idea quickly gained popularity and since 1977 championships have been held annually. In 1989, the event reached the global level, today in the championship ICPC students from more than a hundred countries compete.
Russian universities have been participating in the championship since 1995, and Kyrgyzstan, represented by the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, – since 1996.
Regional leaders were invited and awarded to the 2021 championship, including the coach of the KRSU team, senior teacher Artem Belyaev. He became part of the regional delegation of Northern Eurasia. The honorary award was given to KRSU consulting professor Gennady Aleksandrovich Desyatkov. It was he who stood at the origins of the Olympic movement in Kyrgyzstan. Thanks to the success of our team in competitions (in 2004, the KRSU team took 15th place in the world ranking), the organizers decided to organize a separate Kyrgyz quarterfinal group of competitions, and our university became the main platform for holding quarterfinal competitions ICPC. G.A. Dessyatov led the regional Kyrgyzstan Tournament from 2004 to 2020. Currently, Artem Belyaev has become the regional director.
Quarterfinals of the regional tournament ICPC to be held in November 2021. At the moment, the question of the form of the tournament remains open, but we really hope that it will be held in the traditional format and the main mission of the championship will be fulfilled. KRSU will be represented by two teams on which we have high hopes. I would like to wish the guys victory not only in the regional round, but also, as happened before – in the semi-finals, and maybe even in the finals!
