Department of Foreign Languages: Digest of December Events
On December 1, teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages KRSU held interfaculty student debates in a round table format: «Academic dishonesty» and «Capital punishment» for 2nd year students of the Faculty of Law and Humanities.
Purpose of the event – introduce students to the rules of debates and round tables; design and presentation of presentations; development of reasoned speech skills.
During the debate, students, united in teams, made presentations, discussed issues on the topics of the round table, put forward and challenged arguments, practicing oral speech skills and defending their positions.
All active participants in the round table received certificates.
12 December as part of the 20th interuniversity scientific and practical conference «Economic problems taking into account modern realities», organized by the Department of Foreign Languages, students of the Faculty of Economics of KRSU and the Academy of Tourism analyzed ways to develop the economy of Kyrgyzstan.
The dean of the Faculty of Economics, Professor Natalya Brovko and the head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Associate Professor Marina Yurchenko addressed the participants with parting words, wishing all the speakers success and fruitful work.
The conference participants made presentations on the problem of identifying the reasons for the country's unattractiveness for foreign investors and issues of limited sales market. During the discussion, it was noted that there is potential for creating investment attractiveness in the country, especially for the tourism sector and high-tech industry. It was also suggested that the majority of the country's population has a good level of vocational training. The issue of energy in Kyrgyzstan, which has been experiencing serious problems in recent years related to global warming and low-water cycles, has not gone unnoticed.
The students made a forecast for the further development of the economic situation, developed recommendations for overcoming the energy crisis, overcoming the food crisis, and increasing the financial competence of specialists.
At the end of the conference, Ismail Mevozov was awarded a diploma for the relevance of the topic; for the best presentation – Sabyrbek kyzy Aizat, the certificate for an integrated approach to the topic under study was received by Bolot kyzy Zhanara (all – KRSU). In addition, the jury awarded a special prize to Victoria Chernikova (KRSU).
The conference participants demonstrated a high level of training and good command of the English language. All speakers received certificates of participation, and the most successful of them became winners of memorable prizes.
The School of Law hosted the traditional game «Law is Law». Purpose of the event – generalization and systematization of students' knowledge and skills by topic «Legislation, System of government», developing imagination and creative thinking, improving the skills of logical presentation of material, comparison, analysis, communicative competence, stimulating the intellectual and linguistic activity of students.
On December 17, a real celebration took place at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology – an exhibition of crafts made from recycled materials made by first-year students.
Container organizers for «Doshirak», chair made of welded chains, ottomans made of plastic bottles, wonderful black swans made of car tires, lamps made of used plastic spoons, stands made of old ones CD-discs, portable shelves, theatrical masks and children's horses made from cardboard packages, bags made from old jeans, aprons and capes made from plastic bags, anti-stress pencils, homemade crackers made from stale bread and, of course, New Year trees and jewelry – this is not a complete list of student crafts.
40 exhibitors showed off their products, talked about the materials used, the tools they needed, and the skills they had to master in the process.
Thanks to teachers and students, issues related to environmental issues and reasonable consumption have become a triumph of knowledge and skills. A carefully thought-out quiz allowed us to introduce and consolidate new vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms on the topic. Alternating presentations of original projects demonstrating a good level of linguistic competence of students with a video display of the craft manufacturing process itself, and correctly selected music testified to the skillfully developed scenario of the event. The icing on the cake was the certificates and sweets received by the participants.
This December has become so fruitful for learning languages. Department staff believe that such events contribute to both a deeper understanding of the stated professional topics and an increase in students’ interest in learning a foreign language.
