China and Central Asia: on language, culture and intercultural dialogue

China and Central Asia: on language, culture and intercultural dialogue

3 october 2026

The Higher School of Communications and Media hosted a guest lecture with Vladislav Kruglov, General Director of the Center for Languages of European and Asian Countries, a specialist in the field of Chinese studies, translation and methods of teaching oriental languages.

The meeting took place within the framework of the discipline «Regional Studies» and was devoted to the topic «Intercultural dialogue between China and the countries of Central Asia: strategies, approaches and practical implementation».

Students discussed the historical and modern ties between China and Central Asia, the concept of the Silk Roads, and the role of the translator in intercultural communication. We talked separately about why it is not enough for a specialist to know the language today: it is important to understand the cultural, social and political context. The participants also touched upon issues of working with socio-political documents, the international agenda and the role of education in the development of professional and international cooperation.

The lecture was held in the format of an open dialogue: students asked questions, discussed practical aspects of the profession and analyzed real problems related to language, culture and international communication.
