At the Eurasian Congress on Dermatology, Cosmetology and Aesthetic Medicine

The Eurasian Congress on Dermatology, Cosmetology and Aesthetic Medicine was held in the capital of Kazakhstan – the city of skyscrapers Astana –.

It was attended by international invited experts and speakers from countries near and far abroad: the USA, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Georgia and Ukraine. The head of the Kazakh Association of Dermatovenereologists Gulnar Batpenova kindly invited (as honorary speakers) and employees of KRSU – Head of the Department of Dermatovenereology, Professor Mir-Ali Baltabaev with a report on vesical dermatoses and Associate Professor of the same department Alidzhon Baltabaev with a message on the features of the use of trichoscopy (method of diagnosing hair diseases) in the practice of a dermatologist.

Here's what Dr. Baltabaev Jr. said about this trip:

– Astana is grandiose in all its glory – the city greets you with the roofs of bizarrely shaped skyscrapers and original architectural solutions in the form of «a lighter», the symbol of the city – Baiterek, personifying a tree with roots directed towards the sky, Khan Shatyr – a shopping center in the form of a royal tent.

We were pleased with the cordiality and warmth of the hospitality of our colleagues and Astana residents, who helped us see the city in all its glory!

Before the congress, a master class was held on dermoscopy – a method of visual diagnosis of skin tumors, which allows you to distinguish pigment benign nevi (moles) from not entirely good ones (melanomas, etc.). The course was led by a visiting professor from Latvia, master of instruments and words, Raimonds Karls, who led the students along for all two days, never ceasing to amaze with his jokes, excellent command of the Russian language and the ability to present information in an interesting and visual way. The final part of the seminar was held in the form of a gala dinner, where the head of the association, Professor G. Batpenova, together with Raymond Karls and Professor Thorsten Trotzenberg, presented the students with personalized certificates.

As part of the congress, a master class on dermatosurgery was also held, during which famous dermatopathologists – President of the International Society of Dermatologists Professor Nelly Konnikov from Boston, Director of the Department of Dermatopathology from California Rositta Lazova and Head of the Department of Pathology from Houston Victor Prieto – spoke about the importance of histological examination as the gold standard in diagnosis and demonstrated casuistic cases from practice. Participants also mastered one of the basics of dermatopathology – taking a skin biopsy.

The scope of the congress turned out to be truly large-scale, the opening took place with the ceremonial presentation of government awards and the conclusion of memorandums, and speeches by honored guests. An exhibition of achievements of medical equipment was organized – laser devices, ultrasound devices for examining the skin, dermatocosmetological products and, of course, dermatoscopes. I would like to say that there was also a forum on dermoscopy and a competition, the winners of which received those same prestigious dermatoscopes from the company Dermlight.

Interesting and educational reports were made at the congress. In particular, the head of our department, Professor M-A. Baltabaev shared his clinical experience in managing patients with pemphigus and a new patented treatment method.

The congress program included a separate section on trichology, where eminent experts spoke: psychotrichologist from the USA, Professor Mohammed Jaferani, Georgia – Professors Nino Lortkipanidze and Akaki Tsilosani, Ukraine – Professor Yulia Ovcharenko, as well as colleagues from Uzbekistan, who shared their experience of managing patients with various types of hair loss and transplantation. In turn, I was lucky enough to give a presentation on the differential diagnosis of hair diseases such as alopecia nests, trichotillomania and scar alopecia, which was met with great interest.

At the gala dinner, in an informal setting, there was an opportunity to communicate with colleagues, share thoughts and ideas against the backdrop of fiery dancing and fun, in order to organize joint research in the future. We were all amused by a group of African-American singers who performed hits in the purest Kazakh language, and the audience greeted them with great delight! At the ceremonial part of the dinner, diplomas of honorary professors of the Association of Dermatovenereologists of Kazakhstan were awarded, and our head. Department Mir-Ali Baltabaev also became its honorary member.

The main thing – was that there were a lot of new acquaintances, as well as meetings with old friends, which, I hope, will open the way to further scientific contacts in the field of medicine.
