The Faculty of Humanities hosted «Slavic Readings»

On May 22, at the Faculty of Humanities KRSU, on the eve of the world holiday Day of Slavic Literature and Culture, dedicated to the creation of the Slavic alphabet and in honor of its creators Cyril and Methodius, philology students studying in their 1st year gave a performance with presentations and musical performances.

Under the guidance of senior teacher O. Grigorieva, during the «Slavic Readings», first-year students told the guests about the holiday, its history and significance for the culture of Russia and other Slavic states, as well as for all speakers of Slavic languages throughout the world. In the form of presentations, students demonstrated the history of the asceticism of the enlighteners Cyril and Methodius in the creation of the Slavic alphabet, the stages of development of Slavic writing from ancient times to the present day. They showed stories about the meaning of ancient Russian lettering, read in Old Church Slavonic «The Parable of the Prodigal Son» and poems in modern Slavic languages (Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian and Polish). Student performers presented a music video with singing in nature of the text in Old Russian to music from the opera by A. Borodin «Prince Igor».

According to the host of the festive event, Alina Tynayeva, «Day of Slavic Literature and Culture – this is first of all, a holiday of enlightenment, native word, native book, native culture and literature. The holiday of Slavic writing reminds us of the origins of spirituality, that Russian culture inherits the ancient and great traditions of Slavic culture, and the role of writing in its formation and development».
