Our University is –28!

On September 9, 1993, the grand opening of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University took place.

The ceremony was attended by the President of Kyrgyzstan A.A. Akayev, Russian Foreign Minister A.A. Kozyrev, Chairman of the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Higher Education V.G. Kinelev.

The main participants in the celebration were 156 students from the first intake.

On the same day, an Agreement was signed between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the Russian Federation on the conditions for the establishment and activities of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University in the city of Bishkek.

The Agreement stated that «the university is a state higher educational institution jointly administered by the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation, enjoys the status of universities of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation».

The idea of creating a university, born in the first months after the collapse of the Soviet Union, indicated that post-Soviet states were striving to maintain their former ties in the spiritual sphere. The experience of interaction in the fields of education and culture within the framework of a single Soviet state accumulated in the previous period among the republics was so great and fruitful that neglecting it did not correspond to the intentions of building sovereign states, and especially to the fundamental national interests of their peoples.
