New reality – we can!
On June 30, an online student competition-conference took place «New reality – WE CAN!». Medical students from Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Tver, Samara, Nur-Sultan, Andijan and Kyrgyzstan took part in it (KRSU, KSMA and MVSM MUK).
The conference was organized by representatives of the Department of Anatomy, Topographic Anatomy and Operational Surgery KRSU – Professor Valery Gabitov and Associate Professor Anvar Beisembayev, graduate of the Medical Faculty of KRSU Erzhan Nurlanov, as well as Associate Professor of NSMU Pavel Elyasin.
Over 20 reports were given at the conference, and KRSU students took prizes in three out of five sections: «Current issues of clinical and experimental medicine» (1st place – Abylaikhan Kola), «Current issues of applied anatomy» (1st place – Bogdan Sotnikov, Diana Ten, Vusala Safarova, 2nd place – Abylaikhan Kola), Current issues of fundamental medical disciplines (2nd place – Bogdan Sotnikov, Diana Ten, Vusala Safarova, Anton Shushlebin).
Associate Professor Anvar Beisembayev:
–It was originally planned to hold a student conference within the framework of the 15th Eurasian Symposium on the banks of Issyk-Kul. This year we decided to expand the format and hold a competition for students. Work progressed, applications were received, but the format had to be changed due to the pandemic.
The student's life is short, and speaking at conferences is a good help for postgraduate studies. Therefore, we carried out our plans remotely – the dean’s office of the Faculty of Medicine helped with technical equipment.
There were some difficulties. Several participants were unable to present their work due to health problems. In the process, we were left without a main source of Internet, so we had to switch to a reserve – fortunately, we hedged our bets. Habitual «live» conferences are usually streamlined, and during online events you have to adapt to the situation. It was not easy to give hints and advice to the participants, and the order of the performance was determined by the random routine – too many adjustments appeared during the action. But, of course, this is a necessary experience – not only for students, but also for organizers and teachers. There is no doubt that next time everything will go much better.
Students learned a lot of useful information, discussed with colleagues from other countries, and exchanged scientific experience. Conference title «WE – CAN!» makes it clear that no borders and pandemics will stop inquisitive minds on the path to development, cultural enrichment and scientific discovery. Therefore, we will make every effort to create a permanent virtual platform where students can share opinions on certain scientific issues and make contacts in a professional environment. This is an important and useful matter.
