Rector of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University Sergei Volkov spoke at the plenary session of the scientific and practical conference «Education of the 21st century: Russian language in development strategy for a sustainable future» in Dushanbe. He presented a report «Kyrgyz-Russian university cooperation: experience in implementing modern educational initiatives».

The conference is being held on the basis of the Russian-Tajik (Slavic) University and is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the state independence of Tajikistan and the 30th anniversary of the university.

Volkov spoke about training teachers to work in a bilingual environment in Russian, the transition to a new educational model and expanding cooperation with Russian universities and employers.
According to the rector, three complementary higher schools have been created within the structure of KRSU: Russian language and bilingual education, psychology and pedagogy, as well as adult education. Their work covers the training of teachers, specialists for schools and the professional development of university teachers and managers.

At the same time, the Academic Center for Kyrgyz Language and Manas Studies is being formed at the university. Its task is to provide graduates with the necessary language training, including to pass the state exam, which is mandatory for civil servants.

«Our graduate will be able to adequately represent the Republic on the world stage in at least two languages –state and official», – Volkov noted.

Pedagogical expeditions to the regions of Kyrgyzstan became a separate area of work. According to the rector, together with the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, KRSU covered eight regions and 44 educational organizations. The work is aimed at improving the qualifications of Russian language teachers and teachers teaching in Russian. With the support of the company «Alliance Altyn», teachers in the Talas region were also given 480 copies of Russian language textbooks prepared by the author’s team KRSU.

Volkov linked the development of teacher education with the general restructuring of the system of training specialists at the university. In 2025, KRSU began the transition to the «4 = 3 + 2 + 1» model. It assumes that in four years the student receives three educational documents, masters two specialties and devotes a year to design and research work and internships in partner companies.

«In fact, we launched a model “education through science and industry”, where each new cycle of joint projects with partners improves the quality of training», – the rector emphasized.
According to him, in the 2025/2026 academic year, the university formed an education quality management system based on regular program audits, international expertise and feedback from students and employers. The number of students in programs at all levels of education, given in the report, amounted to 12,207 people.

Among his further priorities, Volkov named the development of continuing education, scientific research and cooperation with Russian universities and industrial partners.
«We consider KRSU not just as an educational organization, but as a strategic platform for Russian-Kyrgyz cooperation, capable of combining knowledge, technology, scientific schools and the human potential of Central Asia», he concluded.
