KRSU examined modern approaches to language teaching

The Department of Theory and Practice of the English Language and Intercultural Communication of the Faculty of Humanities hosted an interuniversity scientific and methodological seminar on the topic «Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL): a case of Kyrgyzstan».The event was held by the head of the department, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Olga Shubina.Students of KRSU 2–4 courses took part in the seminar. Among the students were teachers from the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, the Academy of Tourism and the Kyrgyz National University named after Zhusup Balasagyn.During the seminar, key aspects of the CLIL methodology were considered, which involves the integration of the study of subject content and a foreign language. Particular attention was paid to the concept of «four Cs» - Content, Communication, Cognition, Culture, as well as comparing CLIL with traditional approaches to teaching English.Participants discussed the language component of CLIL, methodological approaches, requirements for teachers and conditions for the effective implementation of this model. The advantages of the method were outlined, including the development of cognitive skills, increasing language proficiency and the development of intercultural competence, as well as existing difficulties associated with a lack of resources and the need to adapt educational materials.The seminar became a platform for professional exchange of experience, discussion of modern educational approaches and prospects for introducing CLIL into the educational practice of Kyrgyzstan.
