A round table «Cultural code and cognitive functions of the Turkic Cyrillic alphabet» was held at KRSU
On May 24, as part of the Russian Language Decade, a round table «Cultural code and cognitive functions of the Turkic Cyrillic alphabet» was held online, dedicated to the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture. The meeting of famous scientists and representatives of the public was organized by the Russian Language Institute KRSU.
The main topic of discussion was the feasibility and consequences of the transition of the Kyrgyz alphabet from Cyrillic to Latin. This issue is extremely relevant for the Kyrgyz Republic in connection with the transition of Kazakhstan and other neighboring countries to the Latin script.
Vice-Rector for Information and Public Relations Leonid Sumarokov addressed the audience with a welcoming speech, who congratulated all participants on the Day of Slavic Literature and wished successful work to the round table participants. The Cyrillic alphabet, noted L. Sumarokov, is important not only for Slavic languages, but also for Turkic writing; It was this that served as the basis for the development of Kyrgyz graphics 80 years ago.
The round table meeting was opened by the director of the Russian Language Institute, Professor Mamed Tagaev, who outlined the main directions of discussion and emphasized the importance of the Cyrillic alphabet for the Kyrgyz people, its historical role in the development of science, literature, and education in the republic. Functioning for many decades, Cyrillic graphics have become an integral part of the Kyrgyz cultural code. M. Tagaev especially emphasized that thanks to the Cyrillic alphabet, Kyrgyzstan is historically connected with the Eurasian cultural space and today is confidently included in global integration processes.
Professor of KTU «Manas» Zamira Derbisheva, professor of KSU named after. AND. Arabaeva Tashmanbet Kenesariev, director of the fund’s branch «Eurasians – new wave» in Kyrgyzstan Vladimir Liu, chief Scientific Secretary of the Higher Attestation Commission Nurgul Atabekova, People's Poet of the Kyrgyz Republic Svetlana Suslova, AUCA professor Uulkan Kambaralieva, OshSU associate professor Nina Eshenova and others.
Speaking, each participant substantiated his position on this issue in detail. The messages included a multifaceted analysis of various aspects of the problem, including historical, cultural, political and economic aspects. The topic of changes previously carried out in the Kyrgyz schedule and their reasons was repeatedly raised. Taking into account that today there are no objective prerequisites for language reform, the speakers came to the conclusion that it is inappropriate to change the graphic system of the Kyrgyz language.
Professor Rishat Saurbaev (g. Pavlodar, Kazakhstan) he shared his opinion on the pros and cons of the transition to the Latin alphabet in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and spoke about the attitude of representatives of different generations to this process.
All round table participants expressed concern about the possible adverse consequences of the transition to the Latin script not only in the humanitarian, but also in all spheres of life of the republic. At the end of the meeting, an exchange of views took place, during which the speakers answered questions and covered certain aspects of the topic under discussion.
Thanking the Russian Language Institute KRSU for organizing a platform for the exchange of views, the round table participants emphasized that the issues and problems identified during the meeting are extremely relevant today.
