On the first day of spring, medical school students reminded about strengthening the immune system

On March 1, the 2nd Interuniversity Student Olympiad in Immunology (Olympiad) was held, dedicated to World Immunity Day. It was organized by the Department of Epidemiology and Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University and the Association of Epidemiologists and Immunologists of Kyrgyzstan.

More than 80 2nd, 3rd and 6th year students of KRSU, KSMA, OshSU, Research Medical and Social Institute (NIMSI) took part in the Olympiad (g. Jal-abad) and the Training and Production Complex «MUK» (UNPK «MUK» MSHM).

The competition was held in Russian and English. They were attended by – two KRSU teams (with Russian-language and English-language education), three KSMA teams (two with Russian-language and one with English-language education), the rest of the universities fielded one student team each with English-language education.

During the Olympics, students competed in knowledge of the structure and function of the immune system, its cells, the structure of antibodies, types of antigens, nonspecific mechanisms of the immune system, as well as conducting and interpreting serological reactions.

The Olympic program included five competitive stages: business card, homework on the topic «History of the development of immunology», competitions «Experts» and «Immunodiagnostics», friendly quiz.

The jury included: acting Dean of the Medical Faculty of KRSU Associate Professor R. Karaeva, Head of the Center for Foreign Students of the Medical Faculty of KRSU, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Therapy №1 M. Shuvalova, Head of the Department of Epidemiology of KSMA Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor V. Toigombaeva, Lecturer of the Department for Foreign Students of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology of KSMA A. Mukhamedzhanova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology of the UNPC «MUK» MSHM D. Aliyeva, Lecturer of the Department of Epidemiology microbiology and Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine of Osh State University Kalysbek kyzy Samara, Deputy Dean for International Affairs of the MMF (International Faculty of Medicine) NIMSI Sandhu Hassan Khalif, leading researcher at the Laboratory of Immunophysiology of the Institute of Mining Medicine and Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan N. Tyumonbaeva.

The jury members, summing up the results of the Olympics, emphasized the importance of knowledge in the field of immunology and noted the good preparation of the teams.

The first place among teams with Russian-language training was won by the team «Corvus» KRSU, second – team KSMA «RUA», third – team KSMA «On RAKHAT».

Of the teams with English-language training, the first was «Immuno champs» KRSU, the second «Antibody avengers» OSHSU and «Immunaizers» UNPC «MUK» MSHM, the third «AURUM» NIMSI and «KSMA smarticus» KSMA.

The winners received Diplomas of the appropriate degrees and certificates for participants.

Members of the jury and scientific supervisors were awarded letters of gratitude from the Olympic organizers.

World Immunity Day is celebrated annually on March 1– the first day of spring. The goals of its implementation are to attract public attention to the problems of the spread of immune diseases and explain ways to strengthen the human immune system.

KRSU students dedicated their victory to the 30th anniversary of the University and called on everyone to improve their health.
