History of student groups

The beginning of the movement of student teams is considered to be 1959, when 339 student volunteers of the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University. M.V. During the summer holidays, Lomonosova went to virgin lands in Kazakhstan, where they built 16 facilities.

In 1966, the number of fighters of the SSO (student construction teams) was more than 100 thousand people. This year, the first All-Union gathering of student teams took place at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses in Moscow. In 1966-1967, under the Central Committee of the Komsomol (Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth Union), the Central Headquarters of student detachments was created, the Charter was adopted, and uniforms were introduced

Since 1974, student teams began to take part in the construction of the BAM (Baikal-Amur Mainline), as it was called – construction of the century. Teams of not only builders appeared, but also doctors, restorers, and railway carriage conductors. In total, during the years of the existence of the student group movement from 1959 to 1991, almost 13 million boys and girls took part in their work.

The legal successor of the All-Union Student Teams that existed before 1991 was the youth all-Russian public organization – Russian Student Teams (MOOO «RSO»), established in 2004 under the auspices of the Department of Youth Policy of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.  The range of areas in which modern student teams are created has expanded: construction, pedagogical, guides, service, agricultural, medical, specialized, and labor teams for teenagers.

In the Kyrgyz Republic, the first student construction team was created in 1966 to participate in the reconstruction of Tashkent after the devastating earthquake. The detachment was formed from students of the construction and civil engineering faculties of the Frunzensky Polytechnic Institute, consisting of 25 people. The detachment, called «Ikar», worked for 3 months on the construction of a large complex of kindergarten-nursery together with students from other cities of Russia and other union republics.

Members of the detachment «Icarus» and other university MTRs subsequently became heads of district and regional headquarters of the MTR, and even commanders and chief engineers of the Republican headquarters of the MTR. Many of them later headed various construction industries, organized their own enterprises and continue to manage them to this day. In the early 70s, when many regions of Kyrgyzstan were susceptible to strong earthquakes, MTRs were formed in other universities of the republic.

Advanced detachments received the honorary right to work on such all-Union construction sites as the BAM, the «Olympic» stadium in Moscow, and the construction of the city of Gagarin. A number of detachments worked in the countries of the socialist commonwealth. In 1991, due to the self-dissolution of the Komsomol, the activities of student groups were suspended, but since 2004, with the support of the leadership of the Kyrgyz Republic, they began to be revived.

In KRSU in 2024, under the auspices of the MOOO «RSO», a student medical detachment «Lazurit» was formed, which worked all summer in the Republic of Tatarstan. Currently, the faculties of KRSU are actively working to form student teams in various areas –construction, service, pedagogical, specialized (production) and others.
