History of the faculty

The Medical Faculty of KRSU was opened on June 15, 1994 in agreement with the State University of Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The mission of the Faculty of Medicine is to prepare doctors capable of both working in primary health care and for further postgraduate medical education, combining high general professional training with a broad general cultural outlook, computer literacy, knowledge and interpersonal skills that are given in the university environment.

Specialists are trained taking into account the needs of the healthcare sectors of Kyrgyzstan and Russia, and their reform strategies. In the teaching process, the achievements of modern medical science are taken into account and used, as well as information about advanced achievements in practical healthcare not only in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation, but also on a more global scale.

Teaching staff

The educational process is provided by 432 teachers, of which 307 are full-time (72%), 53.7% of whom have academic degrees and titles. Among the full-time employees are 1 academician of the NAS KR, 1 corresponding member of the NAS KR, 25 doctors, professors, 7 doctors of science, 1 candidate of science, professors, 80 candidates of science, associate professor. Among them: 20 Honored Doctors of the Kyrgyz Republic, 4 Honored Scientists of the Kyrgyz Republic, 1 Honored Health Worker, 1 Honored Education Worker and Honored Cultural Worker. About 200 employees are excellent students in healthcare and education in the Kyrgyz Republic.

International cooperation

The faculty has extensive contacts with related medical universities, faculties, Centers and research institutes of the Russian Federation: Russian Peoples' Friendship University, Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg State Medical University, Novosibirsk and Yaroslavl Medical Academies, Russian and St. Petersburg Medical Academies postgraduate education, Moscow Research Institute of Psychiatry, All-Russian Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Neonatology, etc. 

Contractual relations are maintained with universities in the Central Asian region: Tajik Medical University, Karaganda and West Kazakhstan Medical Academies. In total, more than 60 cooperation agreements (agreements) were concluded.

At the initiative of the faculty team, a Branch of the Russian Medical Association was opened in Kyrgyzstan in 2000, thanks to which KRSU has the opportunity to remain aware of all parties to the process of reforming the healthcare system in Russia. The university is also a collective member of the Eurasian Medical Union, and in 2015 it was accepted as a member of the Association "Council of Rectors of Medical and Pharmaceutical Higher Educational Institutions" of the Russian Federation. KRSU is one of the co-founders of the Association of Medical Universities of the Kyrgyz Republic (together with KSMA, OshSU and MVShM MUK).
