KRSU has its own science fiction writers!
Student of the Faculty of Humanities KRSU and representative of the creative workshop «Echo of Atlantis» Anzhelika Ivanskaya took 3rd place at the International Youth Competition «Horizon 2100»’22.
The young writer won a prize in the «Science Fiction Works» category. Theme of her competition essay– «Reflections on Human Genetic Engineering: Risks and Prospects».
«Horizon 2100» – this is a project that provides the younger generation from different countries, different nationalities, ethnic groups and peoples with a platform, opportunities and incentives for the generation of innovative ideas, scientific hypotheses, fantastic ideas, forecast scenarios for the future by 2100. The competition has been held since 2019 and during this time has involved more than 1,000 smart, creative young people from 55 countries passionate about the future, and in general, including experts and participants in forums and various sessions, the project has covered more than 1,200 people from 63 countries.
Here's what Angelica herself said about participating in the competition:
– I chose the creative nomination «Science Fiction Works» because I wanted to freely reflect on our future, to go on a creative flight of thought, without being constrained by the strict framework inherent in writing scientific works.
I have long been interested in the development of modern technologies, so I chose the direction «Technologies of the Future», within the framework of which I wrote an essay about human genetic engineering.
Having given a brief history of the technology at the beginning of the essay, I moved on to predicting what we can expect by 2100. Since science and universal human values have always been in conflict, I highlighted the main problem that I highlighted, namely – how not to lose humanity with such rapid development of modern technologies? She identified three ways to develop human genetic engineering. She presented the first two in the form of utopia and dystopia, and revealed the third through a compromise between the development of human genetic engineering and the preservation of humanity as such.
«Horizon 2100» was held online, the organizers were always in touch and promptly answered questions of interest. I am happy that I took part in such an interesting and well-organized competition and took a prize!
