The KRSU team won the First Interuniversity Olympiad in Medical Parasitology
On March 25, the First Interuniversity Olympiad in Medical Parasitology was held at the Faculty of Medicine of KRSU. It was organized by the Department of Physics, Medical Informatics and Biology KRSU.
Students from KRSU (team «Slavic tapeworms») and KSMA (team «Albendazole») took part in the competition. The motto of the Olympiad was the words of Academician K.I. Scriabin: «Life is short, the worm is long» (Vita brevis est, vermis longa).
The jury included associate professors K.S. Kulzhabaeva, Zh.O. Soltobaeva, assistant Zh.S. Smailbekova (all – KSMA named after. I.K. Akhunbaeva), associate professors R.R. Karaeva, O.P. Kalugina and T.V. Kozhinova (all – KRSU named after. B.N. Yeltsin).
The dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor A.G. addressed the participants with parting words. Zarifyan.
During the competition, teams had to go through six stages:
- «Third extra» (warm-up): students were offered a card with three pictures or terms placed on it, two of which were related to each other, and the third was superfluous.
- Identification of helminths on micropreparations. When working with the latter, students used microscopes and microphotographs and described the presented parasites using a certain response algorithm. In Latin they gave a complete systematics of the parasite, its characteristic diagnostic signs.
- Description of the life cycle of helminths. Based on the presented drawings, the Olympiad participants had to create a life cycle for the parasite.
- The fourth and fifth stages – parasitological quest, which included a situational task and Pandora's box. If students during the consultation correctly answered the situational problem, they had the right to open Pandora’s box and then answer the questions posed about the parasite. Pandora's box contained models or images of parasites with tasks for them.
- Crosswords that teams had to solve in ten minutes.
According to the results of the Olympiad, the KRSU team took first place, the second place rightfully went to the team «Albendazole» (KSMA). All Olympiad participants were awarded certificates and diplomas.
The team captains – freshman Elizaveta Blednykh (KRSU) and 2nd year student Ayana Akylbekova (KSMA) especially distinguished themselves.
1st year students Adil Valirakhunova and Zarina Khoshanlo received certificates for excellent organizational skills demonstrated in preparation for the Olympiad and contribution to the life of the university.
The Olympics were accompanied by musical numbers. It opened with student Esmira Bakhshalieva playing the violin, and then during breaks talented first-year representatives of the Faculty of Medicine KRSU waltzed, performed a gypsy and a Kyrgyz national dance.
