KRSU initiates the restoration of the monument to I. V. Panfilov on the 80th anniversary of the Victory
On the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University took the initiative to restore the monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General Ivan Vasilyevich Panfilov. The monument, erected in 1972 in the village of Panfilovskoye at the expense of local residents, has fallen into disrepair over the past decades and requires urgent restoration work.
Today, a delegation of KRSU led by Acting Rector Sergei Volkov visited the monument to assess its condition. During the inspection, the following was recorded:
• the pedestal is scribbled and damaged
• the cladding is crumbling
• there is no information sign
• the granite slabs are broken
• the foundation is washed away by groundwater and destroyed.
The last time large-scale improvement of the monument was carried out was in 2018 during a cleanup day, but then it was not possible to attract sponsorship for a full reconstruction.
KRSU has already reached an agreement with the foundry «Dubrovin» on priority work: specialists will clean the monument, process the bronze elements and cover them with a protective wax layer, and also produce new information signs.
However, at the moment the question of financing technical expertise, replacing granite slabs and landscaping the surrounding area remains open. In this regard, the acting rector of KRSU, Sergei Volkov, called on patrons to join forces to restore the monument. A corresponding appeal was sent to deputies of the Sverdlovsk region of the Russian Federation with a request to assist in finding sponsorship support.
«History cannot be cut down with an ax – memory must live. We must preserve this monument not only as a symbol of courage and heroism, but also as a reminder to future generations of the feat of those who defended our freedom», – emphasized Sergei Volkov.
Reconstruction of the monument to Panfilov – is not only an act of preserving historical memory, but also a tribute to the feat of Soviet soldiers. KRSU intends to complete all work by May 9, 2025 in order to adequately celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
