Rector of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University Sergei Volkov met with teachers of the Faculty of Medicine. The main topic of conversation was the upcoming changes in the structure of the university and the creation of the Institute of Clinical Medicine and Biomedical Technologies. From September 1, 2026, the Faculty of Medicine of KRSU will be transformed into the Institute of Clinical Medicine and Biomedical Technologies. The new structure will maintain continuity of educational programs and personnel, but at the same time will significantly expand opportunities for training doctors, developing science and introducing modern medical technologies. For students and teachers, this is not just a name change. The university combines into a single system everything that is necessary for modern medical education: clinical practice, fundamental science, digital technologies, simulation training, internship, residency and scientific training. In essence, we are talking about the transition from a classical faculty model to a full-fledged educational and scientific-clinical center. Whereas previously many areas existed in parallel, they will now operate as a single mechanism where education, practice, research and the introduction of new technologies are directly linked. The institute will include a university clinic, a Center for Simulation Training and Accreditation of Doctors, a Center for the Organization of Medical Practice, an Internship and Residency Center, a Center for Medical Sciences and Scientific Training, an interdisciplinary laboratory of fundamental sciences, a laboratory of biomedical data, digital health and artificial intelligence, as well as specialized departments. The peculiarity of the new structure is that the student will be able to go through the entire path of professional development within one system - from studying anatomy and physiology to clinical practice, residency, scientific work and further professional growth. This approach is consistent with the model of the world's leading medical universities, where education is inextricably linked with practical healthcare and scientific research.During the meeting, Sergei Volkov noted that KRSU continues to strengthen its position both in Kyrgyzstan and in the international educational arena.«We moved up to second position and entered the 901-950 range in the world rankings. The growth was ensured, among other things, by feedback from partners, employers and student employment rates», the rector emphasized.According to him, the main criterion for the quality of training of specialists remains their demand in the healthcare system.«When we talk about training medical personnel, we must clearly understand for whom we are preparing them: for the state, for a private clinic, for specific clinical bases and partners. If we are not welcome at the clinical base for which we train personnel, then we need to look for another clinical base», noted Sergei Volkov. One of the key advantages of the new institute will be the strengthening of practical training. The university clinic will allow building a closer connection between the educational process and real medical practice, and the Simulation Training Center will give future doctors the opportunity to practice professional skills before entering clinical sites. In fact, the university receives its own clinical site, which will become not only a place for providing medical care, but also a space for teaching, scientific research and the introduction of modern medical technologies.Special attention will be paid to the development of the scientific direction. The Center for Medical Sciences and Research Training will bring together the work of graduate students, doctoral students, young researchers and teachers. This will make it possible to form our own scientific schools and train a new generation of medical scientists. The institute’s own research infrastructure will also be a serious advantage. The Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Basic Sciences, the Laboratory of Biomedical Data, Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence create conditions for conducting full-cycle research - from fundamental science to applied developments for practical healthcare.Digital technologies will occupy a special place in the development of the institute. According to the rector, modern medicine is no longer possible without telemedicine, big data analysis and artificial intelligence.«Today, telemedicine and artificial intelligence are already working in medical practice. It is important for us to train classical doctors, but at the same time understand that modern technologies can seriously help the doctor and the patient», he noted. That is why one of the new study programs developments will be work at the intersection of medicine, bioinformatics, digital health and artificial intelligence. Such competencies are becoming increasingly in demand both in Kyrgyzstan and abroad.A separate block of the meeting was devoted to training specialists for the healthcare system of Kyrgyzstan. According to Sergei Volkov, the university will continue to support graduates who choose the most popular medical specialties.«Our main goal is to train highly qualified medical personnel for the republic’s healthcare system. Areas that are in demand in the regions are especially important, including pediatrics», the rector emphasized.During the meeting, the development of English-language programs, attracting foreign students, cooperation with leading medical universities in Russia and foreign countries, as well as new opportunities for advanced training of teachers were also discussed.Sergei Volkov specifically focused on the role of heads of educational programs. According to the new model, they will be responsible for the program at all stages - from its design to assessing the results of graduate training.«The educational program should become the main document for both the teacher and the student. It should contain variability, election and understanding of the final result», he noted.Separately, at the meeting, Sergei Volkov focused on the implementation of the program «Clean University». According to him, the development of the material base, increasing salaries and expanding opportunities for teachers must be accompanied by strict adherence to the principles of academic integrity. The university continues to work to increase the transparency of educational processes, digitalize control and prevent corruption risks. In particular, starting from the new academic year, it is planned to expand the video surveillance system in educational buildings, introduce additional tools for monitoring attendance and further develop digital services to minimize the influence of the human factor on the educational process. The rector emphasized that the university will continue its course towards improving the quality of education, developing the material base and strengthening the principles of academic integrity.«We are working to increase wages and the quality of education. But at the same time, responsibility, attitude towards students and academic honesty» should increase," said Sergei Volkov. The creation of the Institute of Clinical Medicine and Biomedical Technologies will be one of the key stages in the large-scale transformation of KRSU. The university is forming a new model of medical education that integrates physician training, clinical practice, research, digital technology and postgraduate studies.
