The chess club named after M. M. Botvinnik is open in KRSU!
A new chess club was opened at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University. The first event was a tournament «Blitz with Champion» with the participation of grandmaster Sergei Karyakin and schoolchildren.

«It is very important to create infrastructure so that children can play chess. I hope that events with strong coaches and specialists will be held here regularly and that it will be possible to develop new young talents, and possibly future world champions. We are ready to work together to promote the emergence of new talents», — noted Sergey Karyakin.

Rector of KRSU Sergei Volkov, addressing schoolchildren, wished them not to be afraid to set big goals for themselves:

«I would really like you to definitely achieve the goals you set for yourself. Feel free to dream. Dreams come true!»

The opening was attended by the rector of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Andrei Rudskoy. He recalled that Mikhail Botvinnik, the first Soviet world chess champion, personally opened a chess club at the Polytechnic University in 1978. Now this tradition has been continued in KRSU.

SPbPU also transferred inventory and equipment to the university for the further work of the new club.

The ceremony ended with a symbolic chess game between the rectors of two universities - Sergei Volkov and Andrei Rudsky.

The new club will become a platform for regular classes, tournaments and meetings, uniting schoolchildren, students and everyone who is passionate about chess.
