International conference "Education in multicultural Central Asia"
On March 28-29, 2016, an international scientific and practical conference was held at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after B.N. Yeltsin on the topic: «Education in multicultural Central Asia».
The event was organized by: the French Institute for Central Asian Studies (IFEAC), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, UN Women and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
Forum participants examined in detail the challenges faced by education in Central Asia in a multicultural and multilingual context over the past two decades.
Anthropologists, sociologists, political scientists, representatives of government bodies, as well as specialists who participated in educational projects in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia, the CIS and Europe, exchanged experience and knowledge on understanding and developing alternative mechanisms for the social, cultural and economic integration of the multinational population of the states Central Asia.
The rector of KRSU, academician V.I. Nifadyeva, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic N.Zh. Esengulov, head of the department of ethnic, religious policy and interaction with civil society of the Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic M.A. Karybaeva, Permanent Coordinator addressed the forum participants UN in the Kyrgyz Republic A.N. Avanesov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Kyrgyz Republic Stefan Katta, and other officials.
The plenary session was opened by the ex-president of the Kyrgyz Republic, founder of his own public foundation R. Otunbayeva. Professor Emeritus of the Catholic University in Lyon (France) J. Jakub made a large informative report.
Separately, it is worth noting that representatives of middle education from three Central Asian republics – teachers of secondary schools came to Bishkek.
The conference sessions covered a number of specific problems related to the education of ethnic minorities in Central Asia.
According to the conference participants, the education sector, with its sensitivity in terms of infringement of someone’s rights, should become an example for all other social institutions.
