Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov congratulated veterans and home front workers on Victory Day
«Dear veterans, home front workers and children of war! Dear friends! Congratulations on the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War!
This feat is of particular importance for all generations of Russians and our neighbors. The victory was achieved at the cost of millions of lives, incredible efforts and self-sacrifice at the front and in the rear.
Hundreds of thousands of students, graduate students and teachers volunteered for the front. Many of them never returned, remaining on the battlefields. Letters from front-line students to their loved ones, relatives and friends preserved their memories of peaceful life and inexhaustible faith in Victory.
Scientists worked in the rear along with the entire country day and night: biologists, chemists, physicists, engineers, mathematicians – everyone who, with their discoveries, could save lives and speed up the onset of Victory. Scientific discoveries not only helped create more advanced weapons systems. Scientists discovered new materials, medicines, compiled maps for the army and provided meteorological forecasts, increased crop yields... It is impossible to list everything.
This year, the celebration of Great Victory Day, for which we all prepared so much, came at a difficult time for the whole world. The pandemic that has swept the planet has changed the usual course of life, but neither this nor other obstacles should prevent us from honoring veterans and celebrating this great holiday with them.
