The Faculty of Humanities hosted a traditional Olympiad in Philosophy
December 8, Department of Philosophy named after. Academician A. Kakeeva held the annual university student Olympiad in philosophy.
The purpose of the event is – to popularize philosophical knowledge, motivate students to study current philosophical problems, as well as stimulating their creative and scientific potential.
The Olympiad was attended by 12 1st year students from the faculties of humanities and economics, the faculty of architecture, design and construction, as well as representatives of the 2nd year of the medical faculty, who passed the qualifying round.
The head of the Department of Philosophy, Nurgul Osmonova, delivered a welcoming speech to the finalists.
– The Olympiad in Philosophy has a special place among the Olympiads in other disciplines, since the birthplace of both philosophy and the Olympiad is Ancient Greece. And they, having common, ancient roots, have survived to this day and constitute the greatest achievement of all mankind. Moreover, all sciences and disciplines emerged over time from philosophy as the oldest science and the very first form of rational knowledge in the history of mankind. Therefore, it is no coincidence that famous scientists and representatives of specific sciences turn to philosophy in one way or another to substantiate and comprehend the results of their scientific discoveries; moreover, all key disputes and discussions in the history of science arise around philosophical problems rather than specific sciences themselves. In this sense, philosophy has been and remains not only a spiritual form of worldview, but also a universal practice of learning.
The Olympiad participants began guessing philosophical crosswords, after which they selected one of three pre-prepared topics for the speech by drawing lots. This year the jury identified the following current topics for the Olympiad:
- The image of the future in the ideas of modern youth.
- Absurdity as a philosophical problem.
- Is philosophy needed today?
After each speech, the participants asked each other questions and all three topics caused heated discussions, during which the following pressing questions were raised: what is special about a positive image of the future for modern youth; how to protect the integrity of your personality in connection with a rapidly changing world, constant transformation and change in the value system; how to realize your spiritual potential in conditions of uncertainty in life priorities; how to get out of the state of experiencing the absurdity of existence; what is absurdity and «rebellious man» A. Camus; what are the practical benefits of philosophy today and what skills can it teach, etc.
As a result, based on the total number of points scored for guessing the philosophical crossword puzzle and the performance, the jury determined three winners. First place was taken by Bayana Kadyrova, a student of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Construction. In second place was a student of the Faculty of Humanities Mark Shalaev. Third place was won by economics student Arina Bondarevskaya.
All winners who took prizes received diplomas Ⅰ, ⅠⅠ and ⅠⅠⅠ degrees, as well as memorable prizes – 3-volume anthologies on synergetics. All other students were awarded certificates of participation in the Olympiad.
