An ECG Olympiad was held at the Faculty of Medicine of KRSU
On February 22, the Department of Therapy №1 KRSU hosted an ECG Olympiad dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the creation of the first electrocardiograph.
The event brought together 3rd year students of all specialties (general practitioners, pediatricians, dentists and foreign students) on one educational and scientific site.
The purpose of the Olympiad – is to form motivation to study such an important and necessary research method in therapy as electrocardiography; development of an analytical approach to the interpretation of the electrocardiogram; identifying gifted students and ensuring the realization of their creative potential; development of a student scientific circle at the above department.
All participants demonstrated high interest in the Olympiad. The history of the discovery of the method and the invention of the electrocardiograph was colorfully reported by medical students: the head of the scientific circle on internal medicine of the Department of Therapy №1 Igor Kuznetsov and Kanykey Moldosatieva.
Taking an ECG is not easy, but it is even more difficult to decipher the resulting recording. The features of decoding the ECG were revealed in their report by students of the specialty «General Medicine» with English as the language of instruction Gandi Someswara Rao and Reshma Bommidala.
Next, the participants started the competition, which included 3 competitions:
1. ECG registration;
2. Decrypting the finished ECG;
3. Homework.
It is worth noting that all teams participating in the Olympiad demonstrated high knowledge in completing their tasks. They approached the interpretation of the most complex ECG syndromes (blockades, heart attack, hypertrophy and cardiac impulse) especially creatively, interestingly, fascinatingly and with humor.
Teamwork during the Olympiad united its participants, and also, as the guys themselves admitted, allowed them to make friends with colleagues studying in other specialties.
Based on the results of the competition, the team «Mobitsa» (captain – Rafiz Hasanov) was awarded a 1st degree diploma.
The «ECG BINOCULARS» General Medicine team (captain – Pappala Naveen) was awarded the II degree diploma.
III place was shared by the team «5th allotment» (captain – Meerim Zhunushova) and the team «Zubtsy» (captain – Elizaveta Iqbal).
All Olympiad participants received memorable prizes and gifts from sponsors.
