The Faculty of Medicine hosted a conference dedicated to World DNA Day
On April 24, on the eve of World DNA Day, the next (second) conference was held at the Department of Physics, Medical Informatics and Biology of the Faculty of Medicine KRSU, also dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the formation of KRSU.
The event was actively attended by Associate Professor R. Karaeva, Professor V. Kobzar, Senior Lecturer R. Kalimova, Associate Professor A. Niyazalieva, Associate Professor A. Morkovkina, and most importantly – students of specialties «General Medicine», «Pediatrics» and «Dentistry» in number of 47 people, including 15 English speakers.
The cathedral day agenda included the following issues:
- «Secret of life G.» (Deepak Kumar, F. Sau Vivek Vardhan, B. Vamsi Krishna; supervisor – Associate Professor A. Morkovkina;
- «History and meaning of the holiday – international DNA day. DNA diagnostics» (A. Alibaev, M. Moidinov, A. Bakhordizhanov, A. Ashirova; supervisor – associate professor A. Niyazalieva);
- «DNA – the goldest of molecules (interesting facts about DNA)» (N. Erikova, N. Zhunushaliev; supervisor: professor – V. Kobzar;
- «Human genome» (R. Ibragimova, M. Kurmanbekova, A. Karipova; supervisor – senior lecturer R. Kalimova;
- «Rosalind Franklin – mysteries of the double helix» (S. Mogamov, R. Tyan, K. Azamkhanova; supervisor – associate professor R. Karaeva).
April 25 is considered the birthday of molecular biology, since it was then, in 1953, in the journal «Nature» an article by James Watson and Francis Crick was published on the structure of the DNA molecule. 2023 marks the 70th anniversary of its release.
In 1962, this work was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The discovery of the DNA helix was revolutionary for science. Thanks to the discovery of DNA, the heredity code was revealed, the genetic risk was identified, the formation of programmed properties of the body began, heredity was improved, and genetic engineering technologies were created. Another significant date – 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the start of the project «Human Genome».
