At the Faculty of Medicine «clashed» histology experts
On December 18, the traditional student Olympiad took place at the Department of Histology, Embryology, Cytology KRSU (Head – Associate Professor O. Kalugina) «Histology experts: What? Where? Why?» named after A. Ryskulov.
The competition was attended by 44 2nd year students who were divided into 5 teams: «Timocytes», «Fortune», «Heart», «Ab OVO» and «T-killers».
The students' performances were evaluated by a jury consisting of the department's staff, senior curator T. Kozhinova and dean of the medical faculty A. Zarifyan.
The competition program included 3 competitions: solving situational problems, describing micropreparations, homework.
In the first competition, students were asked to answer situational problems selected by each team, which were then «resolved» with correct answers on screen.
At the second stage, it was necessary to find out and describe the three micropreparations proposed on the slide, after which the correct answers were announced.
In the third competition, it was necessary to present the structure and function of a particular organ in its original form: skit, fairy tale, song, poetry. The competition «Homework» always arouses special interest among students, since it is in it that extraordinary approaches, student imagination and artistry are manifested. This time, the members of each team showed not only their deep knowledge, but also their creative capabilities.
Thus, the charming (despite its terrible name) team «T-killers» expressively read an entire poem on the topic «Pituitary Glands» and made a cake on which this chief conductor of all endocrine glands was depicted.
The team «Timocytes», which, by the way, was ahead of others in the first and second stages, chose the theme «Liver» and wittily presented it, linking it with the tendency of some young people to excess libations.
Representatives of the team «Fortune» organized a mass production, inviting us on an exciting journey through... gastrointestinal tract. Here a wide variety of techniques for revealing the topic were used: a mature poetic text (of one’s own composition), humoresques (monologue of a food ball), multi-colored pieces of matter, balloons...
Cheerful prose with musical inserts, sketches, elements of choreography, including «Dance of the Little Swans», unexpected stage images –all this allowed the team «Heart» to superbly reveal the structure and functions of the unique blood engine.
But the team of pediatricians «Ab OVO» performed most clearly, accurately and succinctly, presenting to the audience a beautiful fairy tale about the structure and function of the female gonads.
The opening of the Olympiad was also student Anastasia Tankova, who talentedly filled musical breaks. First, she amazed us with the wonderful composition of Mirbek Atabekov «Muras» in Kyrgyz and Russian, and then caused well-deserved applause by performing the famous song by Oleg Mityaev «How great...» and a comic song about histology with a guitar, the author of which is our student Rafiz Hasanov.
The charming host of the Olympiad, Khadija Kuramaeva, deserved an equally high rating.
After the jury completed its work, the final results were announced and the award procedure took place.
Based on the results of all competitions, the team «Timocytes» (captain – Alexander Tyumin), the II degree diploma – team «T-killers» (captain – Rufat Aminov) and the III degree diploma – team «Heart» (captain – Nigora Mataeva) earned a 1st degree diploma.
In terms of nominations, the best in theoretical matters, as already mentioned, was the team «Timocytes». She also won the competition «Description of micropreparations». But in «Homework» the team «Ab OVO» (captain – Yana Poborshcheva) took the lead.
All winners received the appropriate diplomas, and each of the participating teams also received small cash prizes. The above-mentioned Anastasia Tankova and Khadija Kuramaeva were also awarded.
