Rector of KRSU: The 2024 admissions campaign was successful
This year, the process of admitting applicants to KRSU differed from the campaigns of previous years: entrance tests were completely canceled, and future students could choose the grant place for which they were applying — Russian or Kyrgyz.
In an interview on Sputnik Kyrgyzstan radio, the rector of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University Denis Fomin-Nilov said that last summer more than 2,200 applicants entered the university.
"We think the admissions campaign went well, very dynamically. Applicants needed to understand that a budget place to study at a university, in fact, does not oblige Russia to anything: if a second-year student decides to drop out of school, an excellent student who previously studied for a fee will be taken in his place on a competitive basis. Kyrgyz grants follow a person: if a student decides to drop out, he will be required to pay the money spent on him, and doctors and teachers must work for two years after graduating from university," Fomin-Nilov said.
He noted that until mid-July of this year there was a moratorium on increasing tuition fees, and for students from Kyrgyzstan the payment conditions remained the same.
"Naturally, we expected the moratorium to be lifted because, at a minimum, teachers want higher salaries. The situation when it is three times more profitable for a professor or doctor of science to leave the university and get a job as a kindergarten teacher is wrong. Students from near and far abroad will pay 99 thousand soms starting this year; there is a discount for Kyrgyzstanis. Moreover, if the student studies 'good' and 'excellent', the discount will be extended for further years of study. If he skips school and gets C grades, then from the second year the cost of education will be the same as other students," the rector explained.
KRSU Vice-Rector for Youth Policy Pavel Alexandrov said that this year for the first time they recruited for a new area of study — bilingual pedagogy: future teachers will be able to teach in Kyrgyz and Russian.
"We recruited 46 guys for this specialty who decided to devote their lives to teaching. There will be two full-fledged groups: one — teachers of Russian language and literature, the second — teachers of so-called STEM subjects (chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics). Before starting our studies, we will conduct testing on their knowledge of the Kyrgyz and Russian languages; Based on the results, an individual learning trajectory for each student will be built," Alexandrov emphasized.
